[Mixedbread](https://www.mixedbread.com/) is a Berlin-based retrieval and search platform known for the open-source `mxbai-embed` and `mxbai-rerank` model families. Its hosted **Starter** tier is free: every new workspace receives **$5 in one-time credits**, with **no card required**.

## Free Tier Quotas & Limits

## How to Get Started

2. The $5 credit is applied to your workspace automatically.
3. Create an API key under Settings -> API Keys.
4. Create a Store (chunking, indexing, hybrid search, rerank) or call the inference endpoints through the Python or Node SDK.

Because no card is on file, the API simply stops serving when the credit is exhausted rather than auto-billing. A separate startup program offers qualified, venture-backed companies $250 in one-time credits.
