## The catch

Without a payment method you are held to 3 requests and 10K tokens a minute; the published 2,000 RPM limits need a card on file (Usage Tier 1). Older model generations get no free tokens.

[Voyage AI by MongoDB](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/voyageai/) serves embedding, multimodal embedding, and reranking models over a REST API. Per the official billing documentation, all models include a free tier: 200 million free tokens for most models, or 50 million tokens for specialized models.

## Rate limits

Without a payment method, accounts get free trial rate limits of 3 requests and 10K tokens per minute. Adding a payment method moves the account to Usage Tier 1 (for example 2,000 RPM and 8M TPM on voyage-4), and the free tokens still apply.
