Anthropic AI for Science Program

Overview

Anthropic's AI for Science program provides free Claude API credits to researchers working on high-impact scientific projects. The program was announced in May 2025 and emphasizes biology and life sciences, while remaining open to other fields.

Free Tier Quotas & Limits

• Up to $20,000 in API credits applied to the recipient's account for a 6-month period.
• Credits apply to API usage on the standard model suite only; they are not valid for the Claude web app or a Claude Pro subscription.
• Credits go to the organization named in the application, not to individual accounts.
• The published rules do not state a dollar amount: they say selected researchers receive "credits applicable to the relevant Anthropic offering," and cap Anthropic's total liability at the lesser of the credits awarded or $1,000. The $20,000 figure comes from Anthropic's own program help article.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where they live).
• Researchers attached to a research institution apply, and anyone with an employer or institution must confirm they have the required consents.
• Residents of Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Sudan, Syria and other export-control-restricted jurisdictions cannot apply.
• Anthropic staff, officers, directors and their immediate families are excluded.

How to Get Started

1. Open the AI for Science article and follow the application form link.
2. Describe your research project, team, institutional affiliation and how API access would accelerate the work.
3. Submit the form; selections are evaluated by Anthropic staff including subject-matter experts, with a biosecurity assessment.
4. If selected, respond within five business days and return any required compliance affidavit and releases within fourteen calendar days.
