Overview
Modal for Startups is the startup program for Modal's serverless compute platform for AI workloads. Accepted startups receive free GPU credits, technical support and community access. The page states that credits are a one-time grant and that you may not reapply once you have received credits in a given tier. Two tiers are listed: "Seed to Series A" and "Scaling and Series B+".

- Sign up for a Modal account and add a payment method if you have not already.
- Submit the application with your company and funding details.
VC funds that want to join the partner network use Modal's separate partner form, linked from the same page.
Before you claim
- Startups verification: Confirm your company details (age, funding, or website) to claim.
- Payment card: Required to claim.
- Account: Sign up with the provider.
Key limits
- Credits are a one-time grant; no reapplying within a tier
- Tier 1 (Seed to Series A): any funding from a Modal partner fund, or >$1M VC funding from any fund
- Tier 2 (Series B+): >$30M raised or post-Series B, or backing from a partner VC
- New Modal customers only
- Credit amounts per tier not disclosed
Eligibility
- Customers that are new to Modal and meet the tier requirements are eligible to apply; a payment method is required.
- Seed to Series A: raised any amount of VC funding from Modal's VC partner network, or raised VC funding >$1m from any fund.
- Scaling and Series B+: raised VC funding > $30m or post-Series B, with a VC that is part of Modal's partner network.
- Partner funds listed on the page include Y Combinator, a16z, Sequoia, Khosla Ventures, Neo, HF0, Pear and Lux Capital.
