Paperspace Gradient Free GPU Notebooks

Overview

Paperspace Gradient, now part of DigitalOcean, keeps a Free plan listed at $0/month for "beginners, explorers, and adventurous learners". It provides GPU-backed Jupyter notebooks with no weekly GPU hour cap, and free machine types are restricted to notebook use.

Free Tier Quotas & Limits

• Free GPU machine type: the DigitalOcean Paperspace pricing documentation lists "Free GPU (M4000)" as available on the Free plan, alongside "Free CPU (C4)". The M4000 is listed as an 8 GB GPU on the Paperspace instance table.
• Auto-shutdown: the Free plan lists "Auto-shutdown (12 hour limit)". Notebooks can be restarted after shutdown.
• Storage: 5 GB included; overage is billed at $0.29/GB/month.
• Projects: public projects only, with a limit of 5 projects and 1 member on the Free plan.
• Instances: basic instances only. "Instances outside of the free-tier are billed per hour at their hourly rate."
• Additional free GPU types (P4000, P5000, RTX4000, RTX5000, A4000, A5000, A6000, A100-80G) appear on the Pro and Growth plans rather than the Free plan.
• Paperspace does not publish the number of concurrent notebooks allowed on the Free plan.

Eligibility

The Free plan is open to new Paperspace accounts. The pricing and documentation pages do not state a credit card requirement for the Free plan; paid instance types and storage overages require a payment method.

How to Get Started

1. Create an account at console.paperspace.com/signup.
2. Open Gradient, then Notebooks, and click Create Notebook.
3. Pick a runtime template such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
4. Select the free machine type and start the notebook; the session runs in the browser for up to 12 hours before auto-shutdown.
