AI coding platform Cline has launched Cline Desktop, a free, open-source native application designed to eliminate cost barriers for developers running autonomous coding agents.
Available in public beta for macOS and Windows, the new standalone client centers on zero-cost, open-weights development:
- Free Model Tier via ClinePass: Developers can immediately build and run agents with included free models, such as DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash and Musespark-1.3, without needing paid subscriptions or third-party platform fees.
- Open-Source & BYOK Freedom: The application is fully open source. Users looking for options beyond the free tier can Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) to connect any external AI model provider without vendor lock-in.
- Zero-Cost Migration: To lower switching costs, the app allows users to freely import ongoing tasks and workflows directly from tools like Claude Code and Codex.
- Included Autonomous Tooling: Standard features include free real-time web browsing to verify documentation, voice input for dictation, scheduled automated runs (such as morning PR reviews), and an open marketplace for community plugins and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.
Cline Desktop is available for download at no charge as a public beta on macOS and Windows.
