Free AI Chat Without Login in 2026: Duck.ai, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and HuggingChat

Which free AI chatbots answer without an account in 2026 (Duck.ai, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) and which now need a login, with limits from vendor pages.

Plenty of lists promise "AI chat with no sign-up", but several of the names on them now ask you to log in first. On 2026-10-28 we opened each chatbot in a fresh browser with no cookies and no account, sent one prompt, and read the vendor's own help pages for what the signed-out version can do. Four answered without an account: Duck.ai, ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Perplexity. Microsoft Copilot, HuggingChat, Claude and Mistral's chat asked us to sign in before answering.

Our test ran from Vietnam. OpenAI says access without an account "may vary by location or network", and the same is likely for the others, so a site that worked for us may still ask you to log in.

Duck.ai: the most private, and no account at all

Duck.ai is DuckDuckGo's chat at duck.ai (also the "Ask AI" button on DuckDuckGo search). You pick a model and type; there is nothing to sign up for. The free models on 2026-10-28 were GPT-6 Luna, GPT-5.4 mini, Claude 4.5 Haiku, Mistral Small 4, gpt-oss-120b and Gemma 4 31B. GPT-5.6, Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Claude Opus 4.8 need a DuckDuckGo subscription.

DuckDuckGo says Duck.ai "is free to use, but there is a daily limit on usage", and does not publish the number because each model costs a different amount per prompt. Its model guide rates Mistral Small 4, GPT-6 Luna, gpt-oss-120b and Gemma 4 31B as "Extra Low" cost, GPT-5.4 mini as "Low" and Claude 4.5 Haiku as "Medium", so the cheap models go much further. Reasoning modes and long chats use more; DuckDuckGo's own tip is to start a new chat when you change topic. Paid Plus subscribers get higher limits and Pro gets 2x Plus.

Privacy is the reason to pick it. Duck.ai removes your IP address before passing the prompt to the model provider, does not store chats by default, and its providers agree to delete prompts after answering and never train on them. Two things to expect: the limit is enforced anonymously, so a VPN or mobile network can hit it right away (switch to Wi-Fi), and in our test Duck.ai asked us to pick pictures of ducks to prove we were human before answering.

ChatGPT: works signed out, but one chat at a time

OpenAI's help center says ChatGPT "can now be accessed before creating an account at chatgpt.com" and "can be used without an account in supported countries, including in Europe and the UK". We typed a prompt on chatgpt.com with no cookies and got an answer.

The signed-out version is a single disposable conversation. You can only have one conversation at a time; starting a new chat makes the old one inaccessible, and chats "remain accessible only for the current session on the same browser". The page asks you to log in to create images and upload files. OpenAI does not publish a message limit for signed-out use.

Training depends on where you are and your settings. To opt out without an account, open Settings and turn off "Improve the model for everyone" under Data controls; OpenAI notes the setting lives in your browser, so check it again after clearing browser data. A free account adds saved history, file uploads and image creation: see ChatGPT Free for those limits.

Google Gemini: text answers only when signed out

Google's help center says "you can use some features in the Gemini web app, gemini.google.com, without signing in". Signed out, "you can generally use text-based interactions, like asking informational questions or generating simple text". Our test got an answer from the Flash-Lite model, and you cannot switch models without signing in.

What you lose: past chats, personalized answers, Google Workspace and other connected apps, image generation, Gems and file uploads. The Gemini app on Android always needs a Google account. Google does not publish a signed-out limit; with a free Google account, usage is compute-based and refreshes every 5 hours up to a weekly limit (see our writing assistants guide).

Perplexity: search answers without an account

Perplexity answered our test prompt signed out, with a "Sign in to save your history and access more features" prompt under the answer. It is a search engine first: every answer cites web sources, which makes it the best signed-out choice for current facts.

Perplexity does not publish limits for signed-out use. A free (Standard) account gets "practically unlimited basic searches", 3 Pro Searches a day, 1 Research query a month and limited file uploads, with no image generation and no choice of model ("we pick the best model to use for your query").

Need an account: Copilot, HuggingChat, Claude and Mistral

  • Microsoft Copilot. Older guides describe a guest mode. On 2026-10-28 copilot.com showed "Sign in to start chatting with Copilot", and its FAQ says "Microsoft Copilot is free with a signed-in Microsoft account", with "some capabilities subject to usage limits". The free tier itself is covered in our writing assistants guide.
  • HuggingChat. HuggingChat (huggingface.co/chat) chooses among open models for you with its Omni router, but "Start chatting" opens the Hugging Face login. Since its 2025 relaunch it runs on Hugging Face Inference Providers, and the Inference Providers pricing page lists no monthly credits for free accounts ("credits purchase required"); PRO ($9 a month) includes $2 of credits. Expect to pay to use it beyond a test.
  • Claude. claude.ai sends signed-out visitors to its login page. The Free plan needs an account.
  • Mistral. chat.mistral.ai let us type but asked us to log in when we sent the message. The free plan needs an account: see Mistral AI Free Plan.

Which one to use

  • Private questions you would not want stored: Duck.ai. No account, no stored chats, no training.
  • The strongest general answers with nothing to sign up for: ChatGPT signed out, for one conversation at a time.
  • Current facts with sources: Perplexity.
  • A quick second opinion from Google: Gemini on the web.
  • Long projects you want to keep: create a free account with any of them; signed-out chats disappear. For the free plans side by side, see free ChatGPT alternatives.

Limits and the catch

  • No account does not mean no limit. None of the four publishes a signed-out number. When you hit the limit, the site asks you to sign in or come back later.
  • Signed-out chats vanish. ChatGPT keeps one conversation per browser session, Gemini none; copy anything you need before closing the tab.
  • Free is paid for somehow. Chats may train models unless you opt out (Duck.ai excepted): see why "free" chats may train on your data and why AI companies give it away.
  • Access changes by country and over time. Copilot dropped its no-login chat; any of these could change. The date at the top of this page is our latest check.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI chatbots can I use without an account?
On 2026-10-28 four answered with no account: Duck.ai, ChatGPT (in supported countries), Google Gemini on the web and Perplexity. Microsoft Copilot, HuggingChat, Claude and Mistral asked us to sign in first.
Can I use ChatGPT without logging in?
Yes, at chatgpt.com in supported countries. You get one conversation at a time that disappears when the browser session ends, and you must log in to create images or upload files. OpenAI does not publish a limit for signed-out use.
Is Duck.ai really free and private?
Duck.ai is free with a daily limit that DuckDuckGo does not publish, and needs no account. DuckDuckGo removes your IP address before the prompt reaches the model provider, does not store chats by default, and its providers agree not to train on them.
Can I still use Microsoft Copilot without signing in?
Not in our test on 2026-10-28: copilot.com asked us to sign in before chatting, and its FAQ says Copilot is free with a signed-in Microsoft account. Older articles about a Copilot guest mode are out of date.
Is HuggingChat free without an account?
No. HuggingChat needs a Hugging Face login, and it runs on Inference Providers, whose pricing page lists no monthly credits for free accounts. PRO at $9 a month includes $2 of credits.
What do I lose by not signing in?
Chat history above all: signed-out chats are not saved. ChatGPT and Gemini also drop image creation and file uploads when signed out, Gemini keeps you on its default model, and Perplexity saves no search history.
