How Students Can Get Google Gemini (AI Pro) Free

Google offers eligible U.S. college students one year of Google AI Pro at no cost. You verify your student status through SheerID, add a payment method, and must redeem by December 31, 2026. After the free year the plan renews at $19.99 per month unless you cancel.

What you get

• Higher usage limits in the Gemini app (Google advertises 4x), plus Gemini Spark and Gemini Omni access.
• 5 TB of storage across Google services.
• Gemini in Gmail and Google Docs, Gemini Live, and study tools such as course notebooks built from your uploaded class materials.

Steps

1. Check eligibility: you must be a U.S. college student aged 18 or older. New users and students whose 2025 AI Pro trial has expired both qualify.
2. Use a personal Google account. School-issued accounts are not supported.
3. Go to gemini.google/us/students and click Claim Free Student Plan, or open one.google.com/ai-student directly, while signed in to the account you want to use.
4. Select the student offer and verify your student status with SheerID when prompted, using your school email address.
5. Add a qualifying payment method to your Google Payments account and confirm the subscription.
6. Note your renewal date. Google emails you when it is time to re-verify.

Limits and the catch

• Card required, auto-renewal: Google AI Pro charges $19.99 per month automatically after the free year unless you cancel. You can cancel at any time.
• Redeem by December 31, 2026.
• U.S. only for AI Pro. Students in more than 140 other markets get one free year of Google AI Plus instead (400 GB storage, renews at $4.99 per month or the local equivalent). That offer is not available in Albania, Bolivia, Canada, Hong Kong, Macau or Tunisia.
• Re-verification: student status must be re-verified each year. If you don't re-verify, you lose the offer and may be charged the regular price.
• Some accounts are excluded: Google One help lists family group members (unless they leave the shared plan first) and memberships through third-party partners, Pixel Pass or Google Fi as excluded from student offers.
• Not everything is included: upgraded storage tiers and some add-ons are not available with a student offer.

If it doesn't work

• Error after SheerID verification: you are probably signed in to a different Google account than the one that started verification. Switch to that account and open one.google.com/ai-student again.
• SheerID rejects you: make sure you are using a school email address and that your school is a U.S. college. Use SheerID's help options to submit documents if prompted.
• Offer not shown: check that you are on a personal account, not a school or work account, and that you are not in a Google One family group or a partner membership.
• You see AI Plus instead of AI Pro: the free AI Pro year is for U.S. students; other countries get AI Plus.
