Neon Free Plan

Overview

Neon is serverless Postgres. Its Free plan is permanent, with no credit card, and every plan includes the pgvector extension, so a Neon project works as the vector store for a small RAG app next to your regular tables.

Free Tier Quotas & Limits

• Up to 100 projects, 10 branches per project
• 100 CU-hours of compute per project per month
• Autoscaling up to 2 CU (8 GB RAM); scale to zero after 5 minutes idle, always on
• 1 GB storage per project, 20 GB per account; writes are blocked past either limit
• 5 GB egress per project
• 6-hour restore history (1 GB), 1 manual snapshot
• When CU-hours or egress run out, compute suspends until the next billing period; no data is deleted

How to Get Started

1. Sign up at neon.com and create a project.
2. Run CREATE EXTENSION vector; and add a vector(n) column for your embeddings.
3. Query nearest neighbours with ORDER BY embedding <=> $1 LIMIT k, and add an HNSW index once the table grows.
