Routeway is an OpenAI-compatible API gateway offering 200+ LLMs and image models behind a single endpoint at https://api.routeway.ai/v1. Alongside pay-as-you-go access, it maintains a set of free models — open-weight models priced at $0.00 per million tokens for input, output, and cache — identified by a :free suffix on the model ID. They are intended for development, testing, and low-volume prototyping rather than production workloads.

The free set currently lists nine models:

Free Tier Quotas & Limits
- 200 requests per day per account, resetting at 00:00 UTC
- 20 requests per minute (rolling window); the dedicated Rate Limits page still lists 5 RPM
- One concurrent request on the free tier
- Shared low-priority queue with best-effort availability
- Free models cost $0.00 per token and require no account balance; PAYG (non-
:free) models require a positive balance - Exceeding a limit returns HTTP 429
How to Get Started
Sign up and create an API key from the dashboard at routeway.ai/dashboard, then call the standard Chat Completions endpoint at https://api.routeway.ai/v1 using a :free model ID. Routeway is OpenAI-compatible, so existing OpenAI clients work by changing the base URL and model ID.
