Overview
Tavily is a web search API built for LLM agents and RAG. Its free Researcher plan includes 1,000 API credits per month with no credit card required, enough for about 1,000 basic searches or 500 advanced searches.
Free Tier Quotas & Limits
- 1,000 API credits per month, reset on the first day of each month (regardless of billing date)
- Basic search: 1 credit per request; advanced search: 2 credits
- Extract: 1 credit per 5 successful URLs (basic) or 2 credits per 5 (advanced); failed extractions are not charged
- Development keys: 100 requests per minute (crawl 100, research 20)
- When credits run out, requests stop until the reset or an upgrade to a paid plan
How to Get Started
- Sign up at app.tavily.com and copy your API key from the dashboard.
- Install the Python or JavaScript SDK and pass the key.
- Track usage in the dashboard; credits refill on the 1st.
Students can get 4 months of the Project plan (4,000 credits a month) through the Tavily student plan.
